Your Options For Volunteering in Africa

Can I Volunteer in Africa?

Any person that is able to travel unassisted has the capacity to volunteer in Africa. It is important to make certain that you time your trip well according to the following criteria:

- Have I traveled alone before?

- Have I gained a sense of cultural sensitivity from previous experiences?

- Do I have time to set aside in my life to prepare for this trip and for the trip itself?

- Am I emotionally ready to travel far from home and be totally immersed in another culture?

Answering these questions for yourself is a good start to developing a plan for volunteering in Africa. Personal experiences vary widely by individual but rarely do people come back from such a journey feeling that they didn't have to face some unexpected challenges. Fortunately the challenges can be the best part.

Depending on your previous experience, comfort levels and personal interests you may choose one of two options through African Adventure Volunteers:

1. A Full African Adventure -

Travel with a small group around Tanzania and Kenya (locations sometimes change due to political climate) with a tour coordinator who takes care of travel, food, accomodation, volunteer activity, and tourism arangements. Learn the local language, help build a school, teach English, learn African style drumming, get to know some locals, go on a camping safari and dance your heart out.

2. Volunteer With One of Our Partner Projects -

Sign up for two weeks to three months at one of five projects in Tanzania. Each site offers a different experience and setting. Choose to live in Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania and the hub of industry and entertainment (only a ferry ride away from the island of Zanzibar) or go rural and stay in humble accomodations in a village where no one has ever heard of noise or light pollution.
